Summer Reading

What are you reading this summer?  I just attended The CAMPUSPEAK HUDDLE 10 and a book kept being mentioned called Made to Stick by Dan and Heath Chip.  I just ordered a copy from Amazon.com!  Just wanted to pass on information – their blog is www.heathbrothers.com!  They also have a new book called Switch – maybe I’ll read that one next!

Happy Reading…

Summer Opportunities

Dear friends,

Well, summer is definitely here! For some of us it is a time of relaxing and re-energizing; for others, a time to think about the next academic year and what it has in store. For me, I will be traveling and attending sorority conventions (Zeta Tau Alpha, Delta Delta Delta, and Theta Phi Alpha), working hard on all of  my Tri Delta responsibilities, and attending the CAMPUSPEAK Huddle to learn more about how to improve my speaking opportunities.

On a local basis, I have been following the BP Oil Disaster.  I grew up in Plaquemines Parish which is now famous not because of the beauty of that area, but because of the oil spill that is killing the way of life for the people who live there and love that area.  This is a great example of how poor leadership can do damage for years to come no matter the level of organization, company, etc.  As leaders in all of our organizations and businesses, I challenge each of us to look at the way we lead, make decisions, and how this impacts those around us.  I am working with a youth group this summer called SANYO and this is the model we are going to use with them. If you have an opportunity to assist a student group, summer camp, youth group, fraternity or sorority chapter, small business, no matter what, empower them to lead with integrity and intentionally to do good. This may sound simple, but it is so important!  I will do my best to do this – hope you do!

Enjoy your summer!

Peace and Love,

Mari Ann
