University of Central Missouri – Working Hard to “Get It”

Students at University of Central Missouri were open to learning and to share with one another.  Having dinner with their Panhellenic Exec, I was able to get a glimpse into the kinds of students who are part of their Fraternity/Sorority community.  Like many campuses, Ritual was not something that they had openly discussed.  During the program, the students shared very personal stories about times when they and others had lived their Ritual. After the program, we spent some time having very candid discussions about ways to make their values a more active part of their Greek experience.  I hope they put what we discussed into action! Thank you to Josh and Annie for making my visit a great one!

Peace & Love,

Mari Ann Annie, MAC & Josh

Arkansas State University – Fun Students Who Really Care

Arkansas State University 09Driving to Jonesboro, Arkansas was an adventure.  I saw interesting signs and lots of farms and fields.  Upon arriving at Arkansas State University, I found a great University with lots of school pride.  Everywhere I looked there were red shirts displaying their colors, and ASU logos.  I was so impressed with the students who attended my program.  A representative from St. Jude’s Hospital was in attendance and complemented the students about raising $25,000 for St. Jude’s!  What a great way to live their rituals!  We sang and some of the Phi Beta Sigma’s were stepping to Hakunna Matata, the Omegas were hugging and swaying to Lean on Me, and the women and a few men :) were singin Taylor Swift!  They shared stories and were very engaged!  I am always amazed at their sincerity and honesty!  Thank you Arkansas State Greek Community for sharing your story with me!

Mari Ann

Fall 09 Tour Begins at University of Illinois

Christina and Mari Ann @ Program Univ. of IllinoisLast week I started the Fall Tour of Ritual of Reality- Panhellenic Says!  I was honored to return to the University of Illinois and to have the privilege of speaking to the sorority women on their campus.  Christina, my contact and a member of the PHC, was amazing! She made certain that everything was perfect for the program.  As usual, I love speaking and sharing my thoughts with students during the program, however, I learn the most when I get to spend time with them in a smaller setting.  After the program, I attended dinner with 9 of the PHC executive board members.  We had a great dinner and amazing conversation. These women are intelligent, care about their role in the Panhellenic community, and are going to do great things for this world.  They reinforced some of what I have learned and I thought I would share it with you:

1.   All of these women were junior and seniors still involved with their sororities and the Panhellenic community.  The need for seniors to hold office, take little sisters, and be role models/mentors to younger members is the foundation of our sororities – we can’t afford to lose them.

2.  Students today, especially these women, are a great example that they are smart and are not shallow and selfish.  We have to continue to work with them, challenge them and help them feel that they are needed.

3.  As Sanford teaches, when they are challenged and supported, they rise to the occasion. It is our responsibility to continue to encourage, challenge and support our college students today!

I can’t wait to see what my journey holds for me.

Good luck with the beginning for the Fall!

Peace and Love,

Mari Ann

Why I do what I do!

5096_1182428681542_1252950018_30491833_7155171_n

Last weekend I had the honor of presenting “Ritual To Reality” to the participants at Theta Phi Alpha’s Leadership Conference at Purdue University.  I had an amazing time and of course learned a great deal about myself and others.  Several of the collegians came up to me after the program and said – “okay, I get it now, but what do I do?”. We talked through some of the ways that they can implement some of the concepts that we talked about.  I told them that the most important lesson that I have learned as I have gotten older is love has to be the core or the foundation for everything that we do. When you love someone, it is much easier to try to help them be the best they can be.  I got that our collegians really do love our Fraternity but they may not always have the answers and that is okay.  We are hear to help them.  I also participated in a historical and special initiation.  It was truly a magical time!  Thank you to our founders for giving all of us the opportunity!

That’s all for now…

Peace and Love,

Mari Ann

Go Tigers & Booking for 2009-2010

IMG_0226Hello from LSU Tiger Country!

Happy beginning of summer!  I don’t know about where you live, but in Louisiana it has been very hot!  I guess snow in Hammond America in December is a good indicator of a very hot summer! It has been an exciting time to be a Louisiana resident and a LSU Tiger fan.  Last night’s College World Series Game – LSU v. Texas was amazing!  Those young men on both sides showed a great deal of courage and perseverance.  Great example to all of us!

I am writing to let you know that I am booking for the fall and spring semesters!  If you are interested in me working with your campus, organization, Greek community, or company, please let me know.  For campus events, please contact Amy Butler at my booking agency – CAMPUSPEAK.  Any other inquiries, please contact me at mac@marianncallais.com and we can set up a time to chat.

Hope you enjoy this week!  I am heading to Theta Phi Alpha’s Leadership Conference this weekend at Purdue University.  It is the first official event that I have attended since being the National President and I am looking forward to catching up and just enjoying being with some very special people in my life.

Keep cool!

Peace and Love,

Mari Ann

First Day of My New Website! Listen to Mari Ann’s Podcast

Thank you so much for stopping by!  I am very excited about my new website! Thanks for the kind comments that many of you have sent to me.  This would not have been possible without the help of some very talented people:

  • Erin Guedry, one of my sorority sisters and former student in my freshmen leadership class, was my personal photographer. All of the pictures that I have been using on Facebook and on the website are Erin’s creations. She is an amazing photographer!  Check her out at www.eringuedryphotography.com and if you live in Louisiana, I would set up your photo shoot today!  Thank you Erin!
  • Felix Sanchez, The Creative Marketing Director for CAMPUSPEAK was the mastermind behind the banner which corresponds with my new info flyer for my work with CAMPUSPEAK.  Felix is not only creative, but he challenges me to think outside the box when it comes to marketing my speaking opportunities.  He did an amazing job capturing my personality and vision.  Thank you Felix for pushing me to make this happen.  You can contact Felix at www.CAMPUSPEAK.com.
  • Pete Lacis designed the site with me.  He has taught me so much.  He was easy to work with and very patient with me.  If you are new at taking charge of your website, Pete is man to work with!  He helped me to understand all the behind the scenes aspects of the site.  Thank you Pete.  I look forward to working with you again. Check out Pete at www.phaseous.com. Thank you Pete!

This has and will continue to a great journey for me!

Thank you for being a part of my experience!

Peace and Love,

Mari Ann

Already 1 year since I served as NP 23…

Mari Ann serving at National President of Theta Phi Alpha - National Convention 08 I can’t believe that it has been almost a year since I completed my third term as the National President of Theta Phi Alpha Fraternity.  Those years taught me so much about myself.  I do have to admit that I am enjoying the time that I have to hang out instead of reading soooo many emails and spending some time with my family and friends.  I am so proud of Kathy Gaver who is the current National President and doing a great job! I’ll be with my sisters at our Leadership Conference at the end of this month and looking forward to catching up and seeing all the great work that is happening!
